TWIN POND | BEFORE + AFTER

This renovation was for a family with two young boys and the newest addition to their family… the playful, fluffy Terrier, Esther, who immediately stole my heart.

I wanted to create a tailored and fresh foyer to greet you upon entering their home. We refinished the oak floors to a classic dark brown stain, updated the stairs with white painted risers, and replaced the outdated chandelier for one with mixed metals of bronze and brass. One of the most impactful changes was swapping out the front door. This is a game-changer in so many renovation projects of mine, bringing a new touch to the inside and outside of the home. It provides a little sparkle from the new metal hardware (bronze, brass, nickel – whatever works!), newfound natural light, and an updated view from the interior and exterior. We finished off the space with a stair runner (for Esther the dog), a classic demi-lune shaped console which is custom colored with contrasting paint colors, and an exquisite vintage rug.

With the foyer being bright and fresh, we wanted to create a bit of drama in the dining room. We enveloped the room from floor to ceiling in a rich ash grey paint color. The buffet is stunning with dark sapphire blue finished sycamore veneer. Avant garde cast brass sconces with a convex glass shield and a brass wire “ponytail” insert that flank the mirror are totally unique as well. I’ve had my eye on this one-of-a-kind rug handmade rug, and I was sort of jelly to put it in this dining room instead of my own!

The client wanted a place for the family to chill together on the sofa at the end of the day, as well as a space where they could easily have family game nights. The oversized sectional is certainly the ideal place to unwind with an evening tea or glass of wine. The chairs at the family game table have a brushed ebony nettlewood and natural cane finish, what was an unused nook now creates a special purpose. To update the space, we painted the beams white and the wall a soft grey, Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. The fireplace brick was whitewashed and we replaced the mantle with a more stylized design.
